Threads of Life: A History of the World Through the Eye of a Needle

My resolution this year is to read nonfiction, and I’ve started with a winner. Deeply researched and vividly written, Threads of Life has a fine focus on the individual that illuminates the larger context and lets history “speak through the medium of fabric and needle.”

Story cloths and samplers, banners and patchwork, the embroidery on the vyshyvanka shirts Ukrainians wear May 21st in solidarity: I like history this size.
